- Commercial Drivers operating a vehicle over 10,000 pounds across state lines (interstate)

- Drivers carrying hazardous materials requiring a placard
- CDL Applicants & Holders: All new CDL Applicants are required to pass a DOT Physical before licensing
- Current CDL Holders: Must maintain a valid medical card which is typically renewed every 1-2 years depending on current health status
- Bus Drivers: if the vehicle meets DOT criteria (size, interstate travel, passengers)
- Not all states have the same rules for intrastate drivers. Check with your state to see what’s required
- Employers may also require drivers to have a DOT medical certificate as part of their pre-employment screening. This is including but not limited to Long-haul delivery, or freight drivers operating a vehicle over 10.000 lbs. Courier and Delivery Drivers, Utility and Municipal Workers.
